Board President
Mr. Adam Moseley was appointed to the Alabaster City Board of Education when it was created by the Alabaster City Council and has subsequently been reappointed to 5-year terms in 2012, 2017, and 2022. In addition to serving as President of the Board of Education, Moseley also serves on numerous local boards including the Alabaster Arts Council (President). In 2019, he was named an All-State School Board member by the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB). Starting in 2000, Moseley was elected to the first of three terms on the Alabaster City Council. Moseley is a graduate of the University of Alabama College of Communication. Moseley works in Corporate Communications. He previously spent 15 years working in television news across the state of Alabama. Moseley also serves in various community activities, including the Alabaster Lions Club and Junior Achievement. He has coached dozens of youth soccer and basketball teams over the last decade. Mr. Derek Henderson
Board Vice-President
Mr. Derek Henderson was appointed to the Alabaster City School Board in May 2013 and currently serves as Vice President. Mr. Henderson served 36 years as an insurance professional in evaluating risks as well as leading and managing various operations units. Mr. Henderson retired from State Farm Insurance Companies as an Underwriting Team Manager in August 2012. A 27-year resident of Alabaster, Mr. Henderson is married to Gloria, and they have four sons, all graduates of Thompson High School (THS). A graduate of Birmingham-Southern College, he is also a former THS Quarterback Club President. He is an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is also active with the Alabama Trust for Board of Education (board member), and Leadership Shelby County (Class of 2016). Mr. Henderson serves a vital role with the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) where he serves as District V Director. He was also named an AASB All-State School Board Member (2022) and has achieved Master Level status in the AASB Academy. Mr. Henderson also volunteers with the Better Basics Program and has served as a mentor to a group of young men at THS from the sixth grade to their graduation in 2020. Dr. John Myrick
Board Member
Dr. John Myrick was appointed to the Alabaster City Board of Education from its inception in 2012 and was reappointed in 2014, 2019, and 2024. He has been in the field of education since 1963, starting as a math teacher and later teaching in the field of music. Since this time, he also has been a member of numerous symphonies and musical organizations serving the Gulf coast area from Florida to Louisiana. His degrees include a Bachelor's and Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctoral degree also from the University of Southern Mississippi. The Doctor of Education emphasis was on the field of Educational Leadership. Post-Doctorate work has been in Computer Science and Music Education. Although Dr. Myrick is currently retired, he still enjoys doing some musical performances and educational work. His experiences in education range from Teacher, Principal (all levels-public and private), Central Office (Coordinator of Instruction – Mobile County and Coosa County), Superintendent (Choctaw County), Adjunct Professor (Springhill College – University of South Alabama – University of Mobile – University of Southern Mississippi), Assistant Professor of Music (supervising Music Education and string students) for the University of Mobile Center for Performing Arts, to Educational Consultant. Other past work includes being the owner of small businesses in diverse areas. He has been and is a member of numerous professional, union, and civic organizations. Mrs. Misty Johnson

Mrs. Misty Johnson was appointed to the Board of Education in April of 2019. Johnson is a Senior Vice President at Wells Fargo Bank in Birmingham. She has more than 28 years of financial services experience and currently is the Loan Team Manager for Middle Market Banking for Alabama and Mississippi. Johnson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As a lifelong resident of Alabaster and graduate of Thompson High School, she is passionate about supporting her community. She is one of the founders of the Alabaster Sports and Entertainment Foundation and currently serves as the Treasurer for the non-profit. Johnson has also served in various other community activities within Alabaster. Johnson and her husband, Gary, have two sons. Peyton and Lance are both graduates of Thompson High School. Dr. Kristalyn Lee
Board Member
Dr. Kristalyn Lee was appointed to a five-year term on the Alabaster Board of Education by the Alabaster City Council in the spring of 2023. Dr. Kristy Lee’s passion is helping students persist to graduation, in order to transform their futures by the power of knowledge gained from degree completion. She graduated from Auburn University in 2003 with a B.S. in Microbiology. She proudly holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law, as well as her Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama. With more than fifteen years of experience in higher education, she is currently the Senior Vice-President for Administration and Liaison to the Board of Trustees at the University of Montevallo, where she oversees several administrative units. Acknowledging the importance of balance and giving back, Dr. Lee has shared her civic gifts through organizations like the Higher Education Partnership of Alabama Board of Directors and Auburn University’s COSAM Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Advisory Board. She also served on the City of Alabaster’s Board of Zoning Adjustments, prior to being appointed to the Board of Education.
