ALABASTER - On Saturday, April 6, the Thompson High School Esports Team hosted the first annual District V Esports Tournament including high school teams from many counties across Alabama.

Teams competed in a variety of different games, ranging from Super Smash Bros to Madden 24. Alabaster City Schools (ACS) Information Technology (IT) Department was instrumental in setting up the equipment for the tournament. ACS Chief of Technology, Mr. Anthony Kingston, was excited to provide help for the event.

“The ACS Technology Team is proud of the District V Tournament's success. We worked with the coaches and players in order to be able to provide the best experience and equipment possible for all participants,” Kingston said. “A special thanks to Clear Winds Technologies and Dell Technologies for providing us with top-of-the-line equipment for the tournament.”

Thompson Esports Head Coach, Spencer Stone, was thankful for all the support he had leading up to the historic tournament.

"As far as we know, this was the first high school Esports invitational in Alabama history. When you have Alienware PCs, Shoutcasters on Twitch, and a Jumbotron running the feed, you set the bar really high. All the credit goes to my assistant coaches, Cole Pruitt and Hunter Curtis, Anthony Kingston and his department, and Clear Winds Technologies,” Stone said. “This event far exceeded my expectations, and we cannot wait to see where it grows in the future. We really want to expand Esports in the state of Alabama, and we believe that adding in-person events will help push us towards that goal."

Thompson Esports aims to hold the District V tournament annually in hopes to build more popularity in the burgeoning sport.
