ACS - The Alabaster City Schools (ACS) 2023 - 2024 Teachers of the Year were formally announced in early January during a surprise visit from the superintendent. Teachers were greeted with a bouquet of flowers to congratulate them on the big achievement. At the Elementary level, Bonnie Maddox, Melissa Smith, and Terri McGaughy all earned the honor of Teacher of the Year. Maddox is a 3rd grade teacher at Creek View with 10 years of teaching experience. Smith is a Special Education Teacher at Meadow View with 22 years of experience. McGaughy is a 5th grade teacher at Thompson Intermediate with 27 years of experience. Lakesha Fleming and Doug Norris took home the honors at the Secondary level. Fleming is a 6th grade English Language Arts teacher at Thompson Middle School with 23 years of teaching experience. Norris, who retired December 2023, taught Geometry and Honors Geometry at Thompson High School. Collectively, he had 37 years of experience in education. During the January 2024 ACS Board of Education meeting Bonnie Maddox was awarded the ACS Elementary Teacher of the Year. Doug Norris received the honor for the Secondary level. All Teachers of the Year receive $100 for classroom supplies. District winners receive an additional $500 to put toward their classrooms. *Not pictured: Doug Norris

Embarking on an educational adventure, students from the Elevate Champions Academy explore the living history of American Village for a captivating field trip. Immersed in historical reenactments and interactive exhibits, students traversed through pivotal moments in American history, gaining a profound understanding of the nation's roots.

THS Band and Orchestra Students had another fantastic showing in the Alabama All-State Jazz Band and Alabama All-State Orchestra Auditions this year! In auditions that included participants throughout the entirety of the state of Alabama, we had 6 students make the All-State Jazz Band and 8 students make the All-State Orchestra! This is an incredible accomplishment for these students, and we are so proud!!

Alabaster City Schools (ACS) was well-represented at the 2023 Southeast ACT Conference as members of the Curriculum & Instruction Department delivered a presentation on how to foster an "ACT culture" in a school system. ACS employees Kristen Westwood, Jill Thomas, Megan Blackmon, and Amanda Wilbanks presented "Multi-Perspectives on Creating a Prevalent ACT Culture: From the District to the Student" before an audience comprised of educators from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Representatives from ACT were in attendance, as well.
