Oswin Colley

Thompson High School’s broadcast journalism program made history at the Alabama Scholastic Press Association (ASPA) state convention in Tuscaloosa, bringing home several top honors, including a first-time achievement for the school.

For the first time ever, THS has been awarded the Alex House Journalism Sustainability Award, an honor given to schools that go above and beyond to preserve and support journalism programs. This award recognizes the dedication of students, faculty, and the Thompson community in ensuring the success and longevity of THS TV.

In addition to this prestigious honor, THS TV earned the All Alabama award, recognizing it as the Best Overall Broadcast in the state. This award showcases the talent, creativity, and hard work of the students who continue to push the program to new heights.

Individual honors were also a major highlight of the event. Oswin Colley was named Alabama Journalist of the Year, an incredible achievement that now puts her in contention for the national award. She also received the J.B. Stevenson Scholarship, further recognizing her excellence in the field of journalism.

“These awards are a testament to the passion and dedication of our students,” said THS TV advisor Christina Chambers. “THS TV continues to thrive because of the incredible support from our school, faculty, and community. This is just the beginning of even greater things to come.”

Congratulations to all the students and faculty who made this achievement possible!
