Alabaster, AL – Thompson Middle School is proud to announce that Kim Miranda has been named Teacher of the Year, recognizing her dedication, passion, and exceptional contributions to her students and the school community.
Miranda has been shaping young minds for 23 years, with the last 12 of those spent at TMS, where she has become a beloved and respected educator.
Her love for teaching math has been a driving force throughout her career. “I love that TMS gives me the opportunity to teach math all day. When I taught 4th grade, math was my favorite subject,” Miranda shared. “Teaching 8th-grade math allows you to build some of the most important foundations for students as they move to high school. It also allows me to see so many ‘light bulbs’ go on as students begin to grasp the concepts of math. It’s very fulfilling!”
While she is passionate about the subject matter, Miranda says her favorite part of being a teacher is the connections she makes with her students. “I take time to share myself with students and to get to know them, not just academically, but personally. There’s nothing better than when former students come back to visit or keep in touch through email or social media!”
This ability to build meaningful relationships and inspire her students is just one of the many reasons Miranda was selected for this prestigious honor. As TMS Teacher of the Year, Miranda serves as a shining example of the profound impact educators can have on their students’ lives, both academically and personally.
